It
is most important in these troubled times to remember that the battle for
democracy and freedom begins here... on the shoproom floor, in the media, in the
courtrooms and boardrooms, and, of course, in the streets ... preservation of
our rights to freely assemble, to dissent, to speak out, to organize ourselves
into unions, to democratically elect our representatives ... the very essence of
what it should mean to be an american citizen. It is these basic human rights
that we should be exporting ... not land mines, pesticides, weapons and
sweatshops. When people around the globe have these basic human rights, no
nation will harbor those who intend violence toward others. It's the way to
lasting peace. From
